Medication Aide Program

Program Details

Medication Aide / Med-Tech

Program Hours:  68 hours ( 3.5 weeks)

                            Theory 48 hours, Clinical 20 hrs

Length: 3.5 weeks

Schedule:  Monday - Thursday (9 am - 2:30 pm)

This program prepares students to safely administer medications in assisted living facilities. Students will acquire some skills such as

  1. Understand the basics of medication administration

  2. Assist clients with self medication administration

  3. The proper procedure for preparing, safely administering medications, storage and disposal of medications

  4. Documentation in  medication administration record.

  5. Infection Control practices

Basic Admission Requirements

  • Student must be at least 18 years of age 

  • Student must be able to read, write and understand English.

  • PCA/CNA certified by an approved school

  • Valid Identification card [driver’s license, state ID, Passport, work authorization]

  • Criminal background check 

  • TB Test (PPD test/Quantiferon gold test/chest X-ray)

  • Hepatitis B

  • Flu shot

  • COVID-19 vaccine

Medication Administration Training

Program Hours:  32 hours

Length:  1 week

Schedule:  Monday - Friday  (9 am-3:40 pm)

This program prepares students to assist clients with self administration of medications. Upon successful completion, student will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Graduates will be able to work in mental health facilities, group homes, adult/child daycare centers licensed by the commonwealth of Virginia Department of Social Services division of licensing program.
